PRESS RELEASE: March 29th, 2006
Commission on Children and Families’ (CCF)
www.StayActive.org is Up and Ready for Action!
CHARLOTTESVILLE
,
VA
New on the web, www.StayActive.org is a great resource for
Charlottesville
and
Albemarle
kids to find free, or almost free, after-school activities.
The Charlottesville/Albemarle Commission on Children and Families is very excited to announce the launch of a new website, www.StayActive.org. The website provides information on free and low-cost after-school activities for
Charlottesville
and
Albemarle
youth. The website is aimed at students and their parents as a resource to easily find affordable ways for youths to spend constructive time after school.
To promote StayActive.org we have created a postcard with information about the website and also a contest to encourage students to visit the site. When young people visit and fill out a form on the site, they are eligible to win a VISA gift card in a raffle.
The website provides information on after-school activities for school-age children under the categories: Sports, Arts, Academic,
Recreation
Centers
, Leadership, and General Interest. Each listing provides contact information, location, and the ages served. Also, every month there will be a spotlight on one of the locations. This month it is the
Music
Resource
Center
.
The StayActive website will be maintained by a group of local youth at Computers4Kids. They will be overseen by a mentor and have the opportunity to learn web design and management skills by keeping the website up to date and interesting.
This project was developed by the Assets for Youth Implementation Team at the Charlottesville/Albemarle Commission on Children and Families and has been made possible by the collaboration of Computers4Kids, Growing Technologies, BNSI, Music Resource Center, Charlottesville and Albemarle Departments of Parks and Recreation, Lighthouse Studios, Region Ten, Boys and Girls Club, Charlottesville and Albemarle School Districts, Urban Vision, Community Attention, University Outreach Office at the University of Virginia, Albemarle Housing Improvement Program, Albemarle County Department of Social Services, Quality Community Council, FOCUS TeensSight, and the Charlottesville Area School Business Alliance. The funding to print the cards comes from the
Charlottesville
City
Schools
,
Albemarle
County
Parks
and Recreation, and the University Outreach Office at the
University
of
Virginia
.
