PRESS RELEASE: December 16, 2005
Commission on Children and Families’ (CCF)
Policy Paper: Youth Employment
Identified problems and solutions with local youth employment.

The summer employment rate for teens is the lowest it has been since 1948. Summer employment is critical for youth, especially low-income youth, to get the experience and job training they need to be able to support themselves after they finish school. The job market has become very competitive and a minimum education no longer guarantees a sufficient wage.
The Assets for Youth Implementation Team at the Charlottesville/Albemarle Commission on Children and Families (CCF) has released a policy paper addressing the need for more youth employment in the area.
This policy paper identifies needs in our community, suggests solutions, and highlights several programs that are already working toward giving our youth the experiences they need to succeed.
You have been sent a hard copy of the policy paper in the mail. If you did not receive a copy, please look at the .pdf version on our website www.ccfinfo.org for more information.
If you have any questions please contact Gretchen Ellis (434) 872-4548 or Hallam Roth (434) 872-4565.
