Endorsement Policy

The Commission on Children and Families' members request that local organizations seeking support from the CCF in the form of a letter, signature, or sponsorship follow the guidelines below. For optimal consideration, organizations are encouraged to provide the CCF with generous lead time for consideration (see "Procedure" below).

Criteria

Proposals should:

    • Promote the well-being of children and their families in the City of Charlottesville and Albemarle County;

    • Include a plan for obtaining and sustaining measurable outcomes for program participants;

    • Demonstrate a documented community need and understanding of the target population;

    • Describe efforts at insuring that the proposed service enhances and does not duplicate existing services;

    • Provide evidence that the host organization has the capacity, qualifications, and expertise to accomplish stated outcomes; and

    • Include a plan for continued funding--other than via local government--at the termination of the grant.

Procedure

Agencies should make every effort to provide a copy of the proposal or initial concept description to CCF four weeks before the support letter is needed. Consideration of requests with less than four weeks notice cannot be guaranteed.

The CCF staff will review requests and make a recommendation to the Executive Committee for consideration at its monthly meeting held on the third Monday of every month. If the timing does not allow for review at the monthly meeting, CCF staff will attempt to arrange a special meeting held for that purpose.

By granting this positive recommendation, it is the Commission's intent to communicate that the project could be beneficial to our community, and not its intention to participate financially or otherwise, or to commit any public funds for the project.
