Community Needs Assessment Work Group

Charge
The Needs Assessment work group has completed the first phase of its charge -- to make recommendations to the CCF about conducting a comprehensive assessment of the needs of children and families in the City of Charlottesville and Albemarle County – and is in the final stages of completing the implementation of the needs assessment. The overall study provides information on how families function, utilize and access services, and sets a baseline for future comparisons.

The 2003 charge is to complete all forms of data collection, finalize and disseminate a written report, organize public hearings and meetings for further resident and stakeholders input, and present a final report with recommendations for action to the CCF.


Specific Tasks

(1) Supplement the telephone survey with focus groups, available local research and data:

a. Complete 4 focus groups to clarify results
b. Add summary of focus groups, census data, existing local needs assessments and other relevant information sources into final needs assessment report

(2) Provide a final written report to CCF
a. Finalize and produce report of findings
b. Include in final report recommendations for action specific to CCF for strategic planning
c. Organize community meetings for deliberation of findings and continued input
d. Share information with Outcome Funding Work Group for prioritization of funding areas and/or strategies

(3) Present to City Council and Board of Supervisors


Timeline
The Committee will complete a timeline for completion of strategies to present to the Commission to accompany this charge. As a result of the actions associated with these strategies, the Committee will act as an information source and catalyst for the work of the Commission.
