The Child Abuse and Neglect Subcommittee of the
Impact of Family Violence Work Group
Convened in October 2002, the Child Abuse and Neglect Subcommittee has begun work on: identifying factors contributing to high incidence of child abuse; researching effective community prevention models (including community awareness campaigns and child and parent education); and reporting back to the Family Violence Work Group with recommendations aimed at lessening child abuse and neglect and their negative impact upon children.
The Child Abuse and Neglect Subcommittee findings:
There is a need for timely and rapid response to abuse and neglect in conjunction with a community based crisis stabilization setting
There is a need for improved multidisciplinary coordination and collaboration in intervention and services for abused and neglected children.
There are insufficient services and funding for some children impacted by violence, including non-caretaker victims, child perpetrators, and children without source of funding for treatment. (link to full report)
